Father Remanded for Two Weeks Over Brutal Flogging of Daughter At Twifo Praso

A father who mercilessly flogged his daughter for damaging a padlock after returning home late has been remanded in custody for two weeks by the Assin Fosu District Court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu.

The accused, Abraham Amoh Blankson, 48, is facing charges of assault and causing harm and is expected to reappear before the court on October 24, 2024.

This follows the prosecutor, Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng’s request to the court to allow the police to have ample time to carry out further investigations.

Presenting the case, Inspector Buabeng explained that the complainant, Esther Amoh Blankson, 20, is a hairdresser apprentice residing at Old Praso, a suburb of Twifo Praso in the Twifo Attimorkwa District of the Central Region.

The suspect, Abraham Amoh Blankson, is Esther’s father and resides in the same community.

On October 11, 2024, Esther and her father left home for work in the morning and returned home late at night, around 1 am the following day. However, the suspect, who was waiting for Esther’s return, locked the door with a different padlock.

When Esther arrived and requested the door keys, the suspect angrily asked her to go back and sleep where she was coming from. Esther, after waiting for a while, damaged the padlock to gain entry into the room.

The suspect, realizing the damaged padlock, threatened to beat Esther, prompting her to run to her stepmother’s house for refuge.

Esther returned home later that day and discovered that her father had taken ¢370 from her handbag. When she demanded the money back, the suspect refused, stating he would only return it if she replaced the damaged padlock.

Esther, unhappy with her father’s response, “chuckled” at him and angrily walked out in the presence of his workers. This action provoked the suspect to beat her mercilessly with an electrical cable.
