The Ellembele District Chief Executive (DCE), Kwasi Bonzoh, has threatened legal action against CIC Express Company Limited, a small-scale mining firm caught illegally mining in the Subile River, behind Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School.
According to reports, CIC Express had earlier requested approval from the DCE on September 25, 2024, to undertake reclamation work on the Nkroful Agricultural Senior High school’s land. This request came after the Chief of the Akwamu Traditional Area of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, recommended the company for the job. However, in an unexpected development, the company was found on October 6, 2024, conducting illegal mining operations before receiving approval from the assembly.
The illegal activity has caused significant damage to the Subile River.
Two people were arrested and 3 excavators were seized following the incident when the Dce and the District police comander got to the school land where they were operating Speaking to our reporter Nana fynn, Hon. Kwasi Bonzoh expressed his shock and dismay over the situation.
Meanwhile, Kojo Dick, President of the Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School Old Students Association, voiced his concerns about the threat posed to students’ lives by the illegal mining.
He vowed that the association would go to any length to help stop the menace.
