The Assin Fosu District Court on Thursday, October 31, 2024, sentenced two friends to 4 years in prison in hard labour for stealing a motorbike at Assin Endwain the Assin North District of the Central Region.
The two, Emmanuel Audio, 20, and Romeo Odei Martin, 20, pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing and conspiracy.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo explained to the court presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu that the complainant is a farmer and a resident of Assin Endwa whereas the convicts Emmanuel Aidoo and Romeo Odei Martin are motor mechanics at Cape Coast.
Chief Inspector Anyongo indicated that on October 28, 204, at about 7:30 pm, the complainant, Dickson Dovor, parked his Suzuki motorbike valued at Gh¢13,000 in his corridor and went to sleep.
The complainant woke up at about 7:00 am the following morning and could not trace the whereabouts of his motorbike.
A complaint was officially made at the Assin Akonfudi police station, and an investigation was initiated into the matter.
On the same day, the police received information that a Suzuki Motorbike had been intercepted by the police personnel led by Inspector Iddrisu Salifu at the Assin Anyinabrim police snap-check.
Chief Inspector Anyongo further explained that the police, upon receiving the information together with the complainant, swiftly moved to Anyinabrim Police Station with the documents covering the motorbike.
Upon thorough inspection, it was discovered that the said stolen motorbike belonged to the complainant.
The convict, Emmanuel Aidoo, and his accomplice, Romeo Odei Martin, together with the motorbike, were therefore handed over to the Assin Akonfudi Police for further investigation after photographs were taken for evidential purposes.
During the police investigation, both convicts admitted the offense in their respective investigations’ caution statements and admitted that both played a diverse role in the theft.
Emmanuel Aidoo, the first shockingly revealed to the police that his daughter was sick and he had no money on him so when he visited his grandmother at Assin Endwa on October 25, 2024, he spotted the motorbike parked in the complainant’s house.
He then went back to Cape Coast and discussed it with his friend, the second convict, to assist him steal the motorbike to do Okada Business so he could use the proceeds to take care of Emmanuel’s sick daughter.
Chief Inspector Gilbert Anyongo disclosed that after they succeeded in stealing the motor, they disconnected and reconnected some cables and managed to start the motorbike without the ignition key.
However, their plan was foiled when police personnel led by Inspector Iddrisu Salifu intercepted the stolen motorbike at the Assin Anyinabrim Police Snap Check while they were on their way back to Cape Coast, and after the investigations, they were charged with the offenses to appear before the court.
