Prematurity is the term for a baby being born before 37 weeks of pregnancy, or less than 259 days of gestation
World Prematurity Day, observed annually on November 17, to raise global awareness of the challenges for women and babies associated with preterm birth, and celebrates the lives of preterm infants.
According to Mrs Monica Kyeiwaa Manu, a senior nursing officer at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Mother and Baby Unit has revealed that, most babies who are delivered prematurely are born between 32 and 36 weeks gestation, and almost all of these babies grow up to be healthy children, especially when the mothers adhers to their nurses and doctors instructions on how to take care of the babies.
“In view of the fact that, your baby is born prematurity doesn’t signifies your baby’s chances of surviving is very low, she said
Mrs Monica Kyeiwaah made this known to the media when the Neonata l Intensive Unit under the Mother And Baby Unit Celebrated World Prematurity Day under the theme: Breaking barriers; Access to quality care everywhere
At the ceremony some proud Ex- preterm Mothers (mothers who delivered prematurely) encouraged others to have faith and support their babies because theirs were able to survived
