Offinso, Ashanti Region – Growing frustration and anger are brewing in Offinso following a series of delays in a contempt case against the current Offinso Chief, Nana Amoako Poku, at the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs Court.

The aggrieved residents, primarily youth and members of the Ahyirem family, warn of potential violence if the case remains unresolved.

The latest adjournment on Wednesday, with the plaintiff’s lawyer seeking a postponement due to the chief’s absence, has further inflamed tensions.

Opanin Akwasi Duffour, a leading member of the Ahyirem family, expressed deep disappointment with the court’s continued delays, emphasizing the potential for serious consequences if the situation is not addressed promptly.

“We are deeply disappointed in the court’s handling of this matter,” said Duffour. “The persistent delays are creating a volatile situation, and if it continues, we fear the worst for our community.”

The aggrieved families and youth who spoke to this reporter are particularly concerned about perceived injustices and a lack of transparency in the court proceedings. They believe the court is intentionally delaying the case, leading to a sense of betrayal and frustration. Calls for intervention from the National House of Chiefs and national security have been issued to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.

Apostle Anthony Opoku Addai, Chairman of the Offinso Local Council of Churches, expressed concern about the escalating tensions, urging the Regional House of Chiefs to expedite a resolution to the case.

“This situation is creating an unsafe environment for everyone in Offinso,” said Addai. “We urge the court to act swiftly and fairly to restore peace and stability to our community.”

The ongoing delays in the case, coupled with the growing unrest among residents, highlight the urgent need for a transparent and timely resolution.

The potential for violence underscores the severity of the situation and the importance of decisive action from the relevant authorities.
