Three Persons Perished Whiles Several Others Injured In A Fatal Accident At The Residents Road Junction On The Cape Coast Highway

On Friday, 27th December, 2024, a telephone call was received at the Regional Headquarters of Ghana National Fire Service from Fire Master Control in Accra at 0648hrs reporting an accident at the Residential Road Junction on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway Close to Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School.

The rescue team from the regional headquarters and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station were dispatched to the accident scene to rescue casualties trapped.

On arrival at the scene it was observed that a Yotung bus with registration number GW 6231-21 travelling from Takoradi to Accra and carrying 53 passengers had fell on its side with some passengers trapped beneath the car. Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service with the help of the police and ambulance services were able to rescue all the casualties and were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital to seek medical care.

Three (3) persons were confirmed dead by the medical practitioners at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital while the other casualties who had various degrees on injuries were receiving medical care. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident. The Yotung bus was totally damaged.

The bus was said to be traveling from Takoradi to Accra when the incident happened.

23 of the victims are receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and 9 were treated and discharged.

Ghana Ambulance team Leader, Keteku Prosper said with help of the police services were able to rescue all the casualties and were sent to the cape coast teaching hospital and others to UCC hospital to seek medical care.
