FOSA North America Supports Fijai SHS With Smart Board And Learning Center

Members of the North America branch of the Fijai Old Students Association (FOSA) have pledged their unwavering support to their alma mater, Fijai Senior High School (SHS) near Sekondi, by providing essential equipment to enhance the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics.

This initiative is spearheaded by the National Maths and Science Quiz (NSMQ) Foundation, Fijai SHS Chapter, a nonprofit organization based in the USA that oversees all activities related to the National Science and Maths Quiz competition for the school.

As part of this commitment, the Foundation has presented an 86-inch Smart Board, now installed at the state-of-the-art Dr. J.Y. Andoh Learning Center. Funded by the NSMQ Foundation Fijai Chapter in the USA, the center is designed to support innovative learning and STEM education.

This initiative reflects the Foundation’s dedication to equipping students with the tools needed to excel in an increasingly globalized and technologically advanced world.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Samuel Opoku, President of the NSMQ Foundation, Fijai SHS Chapter, and Financial Secretary of FOSA North America, described the smart board as more than just a technological device.

“It is a gateway—a window to the world. With this tool, the students will not only learn but engage, collaborate, and innovate on a global scale,” he stated.

He emphasized the transformative impact the smart board would have on teaching and learning, enabling students to simulate real-time problem-solving and refine strategies. “Together, we are building champions—not just for today, but for generations to come,” he added.

The Foundation also introduced the Lawrencia Harrison Scholarship, which will provide financial support to deserving students. Samuel Opoku encouraged members and executives of the Foundation to continue supporting initiatives that uphold Fijai SHS’s legacy as a beacon of academic excellence.

In addition to the smart board, the Foundation has already completed Phase 1 and 2 of its medium-term infrastructure goals, which include installing 24-hour broadband access and 10 computers. As part of their fundraising efforts, FOSA North America has launched the 2025 Raffle Tickets for an All-Expenses-Paid Trip to Virginia, sponsored by the group.

The Public Relations Officer for FOSA North America, Mr. Osei-Sarpong Kumankuma, and his family donated a 4-in-1 Drum Set to the Fijai SHS Cadet Corps in loving memory of their mother. Mr. Kumankuma, who also serves as the Communication Liaison for the NSMQ Foundation Fijai Chapter, reiterated the group’s vision of transforming Fijai SHS into a solid science institution that produces more doctors and engineers.

The Headmaster of Fijai SHS, Kenneth Agbomadzi, expressed his gratitude for the Foundation’s various initiatives, noting that the smart board and other contributions would significantly improve research, teaching, and learning at the school.
