NDC Women’s Wing Storms Electoral Commission Office In Mankranso Over Disputed Election Results
Tensions escalated in the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency in the Ashanti region, as about 70 members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Wing stormed the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Mankranso.
The group, led by the constituency women’s organizer, Madam Adwoa Owusu, protested against what they described as a fraudulent declaration of parliamentary election results in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.
The protesters, some of whom were victims of alleged electoral violence, accused the EC of manipulating results by adding 11 polling stations to the total count, a move they claim unfairly tilted the outcome.
Madam Adwoa Owusu questioned the legitimacy of these polling stations, demanding transparency and accountability from the electoral body.
During the demonstration, some of the injured victims recounted their ordeal, stating that violence erupted during the elections, leaving one person dead and seven others severely injured.
They blamed the NPP parliamentary candidate for instigating the attacks.
The protesting women also expressed frustration over what they see as an inconsistency in the election outcome, arguing that since former President John Mahama won in the constituency at the presidential level, their parliamentary candidate should have secured victory as well.
The demonstration, which lasted for hours, saw the protesters vowing to continue their resistance until the EC provides clarity on the disputed results. Security personnel were deployed to maintain order, preventing any potential clashes.
The Electoral Commission is yet to respond to the allegations and demands of the NDC Women’s Wing. Meanwhile, political tensions remain high in the constituency as supporters of both parties await further developments.
