Timely Intervention By Firefighters Prevented Fire Disaster At Kejetia Market; Two Shops Destroyed

A potential fire disaster was averted at the Kumasi Kejetia Market, thanks to the swift intervention of firefighters.

The incident occurred on Friday, January 24, 2025, when a fire razed through two shops, destroying items worth hundreds of cedis.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in a shop that had been closed for over a year following the owner’s demise.

Traders at the market quickly alerted the fire department, enabling them to respond promptly and prevent the fire from spreading.

In an interview with Bismark Mensa, Angel News reporter Assistant Chief Officer Peter Tetteh, the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, praised the traders for their swift response

“The traders responded to the fire incident early by calling us, which helped us to respond swiftly and save the facility from a possible disaster,” he said.

Officer Tetteh noted that the actual cause of the fire is still unknown and that fire officials have commenced investigations into the incident.

The timely intervention of the firefighters prevented what could have been a catastrophic disaster, saving the market and its traders from significant losses.
