Olam Agri Promotes Food Safety With Annual Health Screening For Bakers In Sekondi-Takoradi

Olam Agri, in collaboration with the Sekondi-Takoradi Environmental Health Department, has organized a health screening exercise for bakers in the metropolis as part of its annual initiative to promote food safety and hygiene.

Speaking at the event, the spokesperson for Olam Agri, Mr. Kobina Owusu, emphasized the importance of maintaining good health and hygiene in bakeries.

He stated that bakers must prioritize their well-being, as well as the cleanliness of their workplaces, to ensure the production of safe and healthy food for consumers.

He further explained that the initiative is part of Olam Agri’s commitment to supporting food safety in the metropolis, stressing that ensuring the health of food handlers is a key step in preventing foodborne illnesses.

He urged all bakers and food vendors to take personal responsibility for their health and adhere strictly to food safety guidelines to maintain consumer trust.

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Environmental Officer, Mr. Daniel Lamptey, who was also present at the exercise, revealed that only 30% of food vendors in the metropolis voluntarily visit their office for screening to obtain the mandatory Food Vendors Certificate.

According to him, the remaining 70% must be mobilized by officials before they undergo the necessary health checks.

He emphasized that food safety is a major public health concern, and all food handlers must undergo the certification process to ensure hygienic food practices within the metropolis.

Mr. Lamptey further urged all food vendors to comply with the regulations to protect public health and avoid possible sanctions. He reiterated that the Environmental Health Department will continue its efforts to educate and enforce compliance among food vendors to ensure consumer safety.

The Environmental Health Department, in collaboration with Olam Agri and other relevant stakeholders, is expected to intensify public education and routine inspections to ensure full compliance with food safety regulations in Sekondi-Takoradi.
