Twifo Maa-Diamond Community Faces Severe Water Crisis, As Cholera Outbreak Looms

The rural farming community of Twifo Maa-Diamono in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region is grappling with a severe water crisis.

With a population of approximately 300 residents, the community relies on a contaminated muddy stream for drinking water, posing serious health risks.

The Chief of the community, Nana Kwaku Mensah I, who has personally fallen victim to the consequences of consuming the contaminated water, having suffered from running stomach, lamented that the community’s water challenges have led to rampant diseases like cholera and skin infections.

Even teachers are hesitant to take up postings at the local primary school due to the water crisis.

Both Mr. Maxwell Arkoh, the Unit Committee Chairman of Twifo Maa-Diamono, and Hon. Bismarck Fosu, the Assembly Member for Twifo Kayireku-Ashire electoral area, have appealed for immediate assistance from the government, NGOs, and benevolent individuals to provide the community with access to clean and safe drinking water.

Despite sending multiple reports to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district assembly, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

The community’s leaders are urging the government and relevant authorities to take swift action to address the water crisis and provide a sustainable solution.
