Lovers In Crime: Two Teenage Lovers Remanded 3 Weeks Over Gold and Gh¢41,000 Theft

A dramatic turn of events unfolded at the Assin Fosu District Court as two teenage lovers, both claiming to be 17 years old, were remanded into police custody for allegedly stealing a substantial amount of gold and Gh¢41,000.00 from a gold shop in Twifo Praso.
The court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, adjourned the case until March 5, 2025, following a request by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo.
The prosecution revealed that police are seeking additional time to conduct further investigations, as they believe the amount involved suggests a larger scheme of crime with potential accomplices.
Also, the police are investigating the true ages of the suspects, as there are concerns that they may be older than they claim.
The two teenage lovers were arrested on Sunday, February 16, 2024, by the Twifo Praso District Police Command, led by the District Commander Superintendent Charles Addae Boateng.
The 17-year-old juvenile girl was arrested at her hideout in Anomabo, in the Mfantsiman Municipality of the Central Region, while her boyfriend was apprehended in a different location after a tip-off from a member of the public.
Reports indicate that the 17-year-old girl, captured on CCTV footage stealing from the gold shop, distributed the stolen money among her accomplices, including her boyfriend.
The investigation has also revealed that the suspects had been planning the theft for some time and had been monitoring the gold shop’s activities.
The police are urging anyone with information about the theft or the suspects to come forward and assist with the investigation as efforts are being made to pursue the remaining accomplices.
