Socfinaf DA Basic School Wins 10th Western Regional Inter-Basic Schools Independence Day Quiz

The 10th edition of the Western Regional Inter-Basic Schools Independence Day Quiz Competition has been successfully held in Tarkwa, Western Region, Ghana.

This annual competition, organized by seven paramountcies under the initiative Heritage Mouths and headlined by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, aims to educate Junior High School (JHS) students about their history while also testing their knowledge in core academic subjects.

This year’s contest featured 14 schools from various districts in the Western Region, with rounds covering Mathematics, English Language, Science, History, and Current Affairs.

After a fiercely contested battle, Socfinaf DA Basic School from Daboase in the Wassa East District emerged as the ultimate winners with 43 points, narrowly defeating Goldfields School Complex, Tarkwa, which secured 42 points and Christ leading school from Ellembelle district got 41.5 points on the 3rd position.

Final Competition Results:

3️⃣ Christ Leading School (Ellembelle District) – 41.5 points
4️⃣ Services School Complex (Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis – STMA) – 40 points
5️⃣ St. Augustinus School (Nzema East Municipality) – 37 points
6️⃣ Peace International (Jomoro Municipality)
7️⃣ Golden Star Basic School (Prestea Huni Valley Municipality)

Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV, Paramount Chief of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area and Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that the competition was designed to enhance students’ knowledge in various subjects while motivating them to learn more about their history and culture.

Speaking after their victory, students and teachers of Socfinaf DA Basic School expressed their excitement and pride in their achievement, attributing their success to dedication, teamwork, and rigorous preparation.

Gold Fields Ghana Foundation’s Commitment to Education

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, as the headline sponsor of the event, reaffirmed its dedication to promoting quality education in the region. He reiterated that education is one of the Foundation’s five priority areas, and they remain committed to elevating the standard of education in the Western Region.

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation was established in 2004, evolving from a Community Development Fund set up in 2002 to support host communities of the Tarkwa and Damang mines.

As the first foundation established by a mining company in Ghana, it operates with a formalized governance structure and funding mechanism.
