Gwira Traditional Council Calls For Establishment Of Sub-Metro To Boost Development

The Gwira Traditional Council in the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Municipality of the Western Region is urging the Local Government Minister to establish a sub-metro in the area.

According to traditional leaders, the Gwira area makes up two-thirds of the municipality, with approximately 10,000 residents.

Despite its significant population, the community lacks basic infrastructure, including good roads.

In fact, according to the Paramount Chief of the Council, Awulae Angama Tuagyan, not a single kilometer of road has been asphalted since the community’s inception.

Furthermore, the deplorable state of roads and the dire need for repairs to the Gwira Dominase bridge, as well as another bridge connecting the community to Prestea, have become major concerns for residents.

Awulae Angama Tuagyan highlighted several challenges in the area, including network connectivity issues and inadequate hospital facilities.

He also commended the previous NDC government for establishing Gwiraman Senior High School, which has been performing well in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

To further support the school’s success, Awulae Angama Tuagyan urged the current administration to add a boarding facility, which would enhance the school’s infrastructure and provide more opportunities for students.

The Gwira community is facing a tough situation where national service personnel are rejecting their schools.

To tackle this challenge, the community has come up with an innovative solution by offering the same incentives as the government to retain these personnel in the community.

Chief of Gwira Banso, Nana Ette Akrade II, strongly believes that establishing a sub-metro in Gwira would be a game-changer in addressing these challenges.

He expressed this conviction during a courtesy visit to the Western Regional Minister.

In his response, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson assured the chiefs that the current NDC administration is committed to developing every area of the country.

He pointed to the establishment of Gwiraman Senior High School by the previous NDC administration as a testament to their commitment to developing the area.
