Sunyani East MCE Shares His Vison Towards Development

The Sunyani East Municipal, located in the Bono Regional capital, is poised to experience a new dimension of infrastructure and development courtesy of the new municipal leadership.

The much-anticipated development, eagerly awaited by various political class and the entire Sunyani residents, is yet to materialize following the confirmation of Mr. Vincent Antwi Agyei as the new Municipal Chief Executive.

Vincent Antwi Agyei, prior to his nomination, served as the Sunyani East constituency youth organizer for the National Democratic Congress.

He secured 100% confirmation from assembly members on Thursday after all 48 members present voted yes to confirm his nomination.

In his maiden inaugural radio appearance on Sunyani-based Ark FM, the MCE promised to increase the Assembly’s internally generated fund (IGF) by blocking revenue leakages.

He assured that his administration would not sabotage or frustrate revenue collectors but vowed to tackle misappropriation by ensuring strict monitoring and evaluation at the assembly’s finance department to account for every amount collected.

The MCE warned that any revenue collector found guilty of alleged embezzlement and misappropriation will be subjected to the laws for proper action.

To achieve revenue collection targets, Mr. Vincent Antwi Agyei emphasized the importance of interdepartmental collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Within his first 100 days in office, Mr. Antwi Agyei announced his immediate plans to develop a strategic plan, acting swiftly to resolve developmental deficits in the municipality.

He told the host Kwasi Kyei Baffour that during this period, he aimed to embark on electoral area visits, improve sanitation, enhance security, and address faulty security lights, one of the challenges in Sunyani.

According to him, non-partisan community visits are crucial for gathering firsthand information on challenges and pressing issues that require prompt attention.

He plans to work closely with assembly departmental heads in all his visits to achieve these goals.

To tackle sanitation challenges in Sunyani, the MCE called for collaboration and a renewed mindset against indiscriminate refuse dumping.

He urged residents to consider sanitation as a shared responsibility, emphasizing the need for public education to maintain a hygienic environment and restore Sunyani’s past sanitary glory.

Vincent Antwi Agyei pledged to improve security in Sunyani by repairing and fixing streetlights in potential crime prone areas to deter criminals, while enhancing police visibility and fixing faulty traffic lights on some roads to prevent road carnage and protect other road users.

He emphasized improving the assembly’s performance by combating partisanship, bureaucracy, lateness, and truancy among his working team.

The Sunyani East MCE assured fair performance of duties, with the Sunyani East MP, noting that his performance will significantly contribute to the NDC’s victory in the 2028 general elections.

Vincent Antwi Agyei pledged to develop the municipality without condoning unnecessary interference.

He emphasizes his independence while valuing dialogue and collaboration, marking a new chapter as ‘a new Vincent Antwi Agyei’ in his leadership role.

Highlighting other key developmental projects, he assured to work with the Sunyani East MP, Seid Mubarak, to lobby for the reconstruction of the everyday market into a modern marketplace, revealing that architectural works have already begun.

When questioned about whether Sunyani has gained metropolitan status, Vincent Antwi Agyei told kwasi Kyei Baffour that nothing at the assembly demonstrates the upgrading of Sunyani to metropolitan status.

He referred to a letter issued in December by the erstwhile NPP government regarding the matter, as deceitful and intended for political gain.
