Resource The Security To Fight Illegal Mining Effectively – Chief Appeals To Government

The Paramount Chief of the Atti-Morkwa Traditional Council, Nana Kwasi Kenin IV, has called on the government to adequately resource the security agencies to effectively combat illegal mining activities destroying River Pra.

According to him the lack of resources like life jackets and boats hinders security efforts to combat illegal mining on water bodies, impacting both the environment and the health of the people.

River Pra, the only major source of water supply for residents of the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District in the Central Region, is facing severe devastation due to rampant illegal mining activities.

Although the river has been under threat for the past decade, the situation has deteriorated drastically over the past four months after the 2024 general elections.

The river has now completely lost its natural integrity and has become a hub for illegal miners operating with impunity.

This alarming situation has drawn the attention and deep concern of Nana Kwasi Kenin IV.
