Give Us A New Face To The Board – Traders In Kejetia Market Beg Otumfuo:

In a quest for finding solutions to improve trading and trader welfare in the Kumasi City Market, some traders believe that the total change of the structure and personality of the impending new board of directors could be the panacea.

A pressure group in the market (Alliance for Change) who is yet to formally petition Otumfuo on this subject raises such concern on the basis of observation and evaluation of the performance of the past management and the board.

According to them, the direction and management of the past board and managers has been the sole cause of the mess we see now.

They argue that as far as the board is equally culprits of the mess, their expectation is to get new and fresh minds to fix the rot as has happened to the management echelon.

Spokeperson of the group Anastasia Bonsu who has indicated the group’s resort not to rest on their oars on this subject indicated that already, almost all the members of the dissolved board will not get the chance to be constituted into the new board as by convention except the renomination of Amoamahene Nana Agyenim Boateng who represented the Asantehene but couldn’t live up to expectation.

With the greatest respect, the group admonished that Amoamahene, who they suspect of a possible comeback to publicly enumerate his achievements, if any, to discredit this position.

As part of the appeal, the group is of firm opinion that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll has a backyard pool full of intellectuals, learned, experienced, wise, and skillful Chiefs and administrative staff capable of working to turn apt the fortune of the market and traders.

Another leg of their call is the principle of transfer in labour practice, which promotes the dynamism and application of diverse minds.

“The market needs creative leaders who can think outside the box to fulfil the potential benefits of commercializing the facility and mobilize revenue, rather than those whose legacy is accumulated debt and mess inspite of the available numerous revenue streams.” said the traders.
