Axim National  Fire Service Tender Risks Breaking  Down  Over Lack Of Maintenance  For About Six Years

The Municipal Fire Commander of Axim in the Western Region of Ghana, DO2 Peter Kojo Quayson, has revealed that the municipality’s only fire tender is at risk of breaking down due to years of neglect and lack of maintenance.

The Axim fire tender, which has served the municipality for over 15 years, has not undergone any maintenance in the past six years.

According to DO2 Quayson, the last time the tender had an oil change was in 2018. He warned that if urgent steps are not taken, the vehicle could break down completely.

The Fire Commander expressed concern that if the tender becomes inoperable, the municipality would have to rely on support from neighboring districts during fire emergencies.

DO2 Quayson made this known during an engagement called by the Lower Axim Traditional Council, where all institutions within the municipality were summoned to render accounts of their stewardship.

He further cautioned the public to be extra careful during this period, as the municipality has already recorded four major fire outbreaks this year.

Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, Awulea Attiburukussu III, described the situation as unfortunate.

Speaking to Adom News, he assured that the traditional council will act swiftly to help maintain the fire tender.
