Mother And Child Narrowly Escape Death At Assin Nsuta After Truck Crash Into Building

A 38-year-old mother, Ernestina Osei-Poku, and her son, Romeo Kwaku Duah, narrowly escaped death in Assin Nsuta, located in the Assin South District of Ghana’s Central Region, when an articulated truck loaded with clinker—a material used in cement manufacturing—crashed into their home around 10:00 PM.

According to Hon. Kwame Bashiru Amanakrah, the Assembly Member for the area, the truck was traveling from Bekwai towards Takoradi. In an attempt to overtake another articulated vehicle, the driver lost control, veered off the road, and collided with the family’s residence while they were asleep.

The impact caused significant structural damage to the building.

Romeo Duah sustained minor injuries and has been treated and discharged. Both mother and child are undergoing psychological treatment due to the trauma resulting from the incident.

The driver of the truck, 34-year-old Abubakar Mohammed, sustained varying degrees of injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The truck’s cab remains lodged within the structure, posing a risk of further collapse. Police and fire service authorities are working to safely remove the vehicle and assess the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed the incident to Angel News and stated that the case is under investigation.

This incident underscores the dangers associated with overtaking maneuvers on Ghana’s highways and highlights the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
