Community  Bares Teeth At Forestry Commission For Seizing Woods Meant For Roofing School Building

About two weeks ago, torrential rains ripped off the entire roofing of Asikam D/A basic, located in the Kwahu East District.

The community, realised that if they are to wait on government, school will reopen and their kids will have no where to study so they took it upon themselves to reroof the building.

Men were to pay 100 cedis and women, 50 cedis. Currently, they have secured all the needed materials.

A member of the community donated an odum tree on his farm, which the community hired chainsaw operators to work.

Surprisingly, officers from the Mpraeso forestry commission have gone to seize the wood and all efforts to get it has proved futile.

A member of the Unit committee, Hon. Omari Sampson Asiedu explained issues to the media.

Nana Ntim Boateng I, Chief of Asikam is appealing to the MP of the area, Hon Dr Bryan Acheampong, DCE Hon Samuel Asamoah to step in and help resolve the issue at hand.

He has further appealed to the forestry commission to rescind their decision.
Some members of the community expressed their displeasure about the actions of the forestry commission staff, saying schools have reopen but their kids are still home.

End.
