IMMILAC Warns Ghanaians About Online Romance Scams

The Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILAC) has cautioned Ghanaians to be vigilant when engaging in online relationships, as scammers often pose as potential partners to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

According to Chief Superintendent of Immigration Nana Nyarkoa, IMMILAC President, scammers invest time in building trust with their victims, manipulating them into sending money.

She highlighted that these fraudsters frequently use social media, dating sites, and gaming apps to target people seeking love and friendship, often creating fake profiles and impersonating famous personalities.

Nana Nyarkoa emphasized the importance of being cautious online, particularly when strangers shower excessive attention, a tactic known as “love bombing.

” This warning was made during IMMILAC’s inaugural ceremony at the Immigration Training School in Assin Fosu.

The purpose of the Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILAC) was to empower and support female officers within the Ghana Immigration Service by promoting professionalism, unity, and welfare.

The association also aims to enhance the leadership and development of its members while engaging in public education and outreach on national issues such as security and online safety.

Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Alex Adu, the guest speaker at the event, commended IMMILAC’s formation and encouraged its members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

He emphasized that the association should serve as a driving force for excellence within the Ghana Immigration Service.
