Ashanti Regional Police Command Arrest Robbers And Drug Traffickers In Major Operations

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced a series of successful operations resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects involved in armed robbery and narcotics trafficking.

In a swift response to a robbery incident on Thursday, May 8, police patrol teams arrested three suspects namely Umar Issah (26), Sherif Mohammed (20), and Abdul Jalilu (19) who had allegedly robbed two residents in Kenyasi at gunpoint.

The suspects, operating on motorbikes, stole mobile phones before being intercepted by police.

During the pursuit, Sherif Mohammed sustained a gunshot wound, while the others suffered injuries.

All three are currently under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The police say the stolen items and motorbikes used in the crime have been recovered as evidence.

In a separate operation on May 10, the Airport District Police arrested 29-year-old Adam Mohamed for allegedly dealing in narcotics.

A raid at Aboabo No.1 uncovered large quantities of Tramadol (35 packs of 250mg, 28 packs of 120mg, and 11 packs of 225mg) alongGHS 66,950 suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

The suspect is in custody as investigations continue.

In a major breakthrough, the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) apprehended Michael Owusu Ansah, alias Baby Last, a suspect wanted since 2016 for the murder of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel during a robbery at Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso.

Owusu Ansah, according to the police confessed to multiple robberies across Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, and Asuoyeboah, leading to the arrest of four accomplices: Emmanuel Owusu (Cassidy), Maxwell Gyimah (Nana Kwame), Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah (The Man Sudais), and Rhano Okyere (Demon). A fifth suspect, Abedi, remains at large.

The suspects were arraigned before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13 and remanded into custody until their next hearing on June 4.

The Regional Police Command also reported the arrest of 34 suspects in a major operation targeting drug trafficking on Thinka Island.

The crackdown, following directives from Interior Minister Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak led to the seizure of illicit substances and cash.

DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Regional Police PRO, assured the public of sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks, stating, “we remain committed to ensuring safety and security across Ashanti Reg”

Investigations into all cases are ongoing, with suspects expected to face prosecution. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid crime prevention efforts.
