Ghana Railway Workers Threaten To Lock Down UMaT’s School Of Railways Over Unpaid Salaries

Workers of the Ghana Railway Company Limited have issued a strong warning that they will lock down the University of Mines and Technology’s (UMaT) School of Railways and Infrastructure Development at Essikado if their demands are not met by May 30, 2025.

According to the aggrieved workers, the School of Railways and Infrastructure Development is a facility that belongs to the Ghana Railway Company.

They argue that if the company is unable to function due to unpaid salaries, then the school should not be allowed to operate either.

At a press conference, the General Secretary Bro. Benjamin Essuman revealed that they have not been paid their salaries for the past seven months, in addition to several unpaid statutory contributions.

They described the situation as unbearable and called on the government and the company’s management to address their grievances without delay.

The workers outlined the following demands:

Full payment of all seven months’ salary arrears,

A clear and concrete plan for the settlement of outstanding SSNIT, Tier 2, Credit Union, and Lovumas contributions,

Acomprehensive strategy to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Ghana Railway Company.
