Traders Defy Transport Operators, Say They’ll Walk To Work If Drivers Go On Strike

In a bold move, traders have vowed to defy transport operators’ planned nationwide strike, set to ensure their daily livelihood isn’t disrupted.

The strike, aimed at pressuring the government to enforce traffic regulations prohibiting roadside trading, has been called off by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

The traders, who have been accused of causing chaos on roads and pavements, argue that drivers charge high transportation fares yet expect them to comply with their demands.

“We’re not complaining about the fares, but look at what the drivers are saying,” one trader said.

The GPRTU had planned to embark on the strike to push for the enforcement of the Road Traffic Regulations Act, 2012.

However, the union has since called off the action, apologizing to its members for any inconvenience caused and urging them to remain steadfast.

Bismark Mensah, an interview with the traders, disclosed that drivers are wicked because they charge fares that will be good to them.

Currently, there is a stampede at Stampede at Sofoline where trotro charging 10gh to Kejetia, but they they want to treathen us with strike, they should try and see we will walk.
