Sogakope In The Volta Region Assemblyman’s Killer Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

The High Court in Ho, Volta Region, has delivered a landmark verdict in the murder case of Sogakope Assemblyman, Mawuli Adzahli, sentencing the mastermind, Richard Adikyere, to life imprisonment. Adikyere’s accomplices, Emmanuel Hedzro and Stephen Adzibolo, received 47-year jail terms each for their roles in the robbery and murder.

Justice Daniel Ekow Mensah, presiding over the court, found the trio guilty based on compelling evidence presented by the prosecution. Despite Adikyere’s denial of all charges, witness testimony and investigations led to his conviction.

The court heard that on March 1, 2020, the gang stormed Adzahli’s home at 1:30 a.m., armed with pistols and a pump-action gun. Adikyere shot the assemblyman three times, fleeing with a large amount of cash. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as close-range gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

Four other gang members, who pleaded guilty through plea bargains, received 15-year jail terms each.

They are Obed Ayornu, Michael Sam, and twins Samuel and Christian Zotorvi.

Justice Mensah condemned the crime as “heinous and callous,” emphasizing the senseless loss of a promising leader.

The court also noted Hedzro’s use of stolen funds to purchase a GH¢4,800 motorbike.

In a dramatic turn of events, Adikyere attempted to attack journalists photographing him after sentencing, adding tension to the courtroom exit.
