The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) yesterday organized a stakeholders’e engagement with members of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miner in Kumasi to take them through the best way to get their mining equipment registered.
The exercise is in line with government two weeks ultimatum which directed owners and operators of excavators to register the equipment with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) within two weeks or have the equipment confiscated by the state.
The chief executive officer of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, who gave the directive, said effective 1 June this year, any unregistered excavator would be confiscated by the state.
At a media briefing in Accra yesterday, Kotey stressed that after the two-week ultimatum, the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA’s operational team would go around the country, arrest and confiscate any excavator operating at any mining site or in commercial use without registration with the DVLA.
To help miners complete their registration smoothly, the DVLA in Ashanti Region led by Mr. Jerry Edem Aflabo conducted a training session for the small-scale miners.
Speaking to Ange Tv News, Mr. Jerry Edem Aflabo emphasized the need for the workshop.
Michael Adu Gyamfi, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners, also emphasized how DVLA’s engagement is going to help members.
