KMA Distributes 5,000 Boxes Of Sanitary Pads To Some Schools In Kumasi Metro

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has distributed 5,000 boxes of sanitary pads to some schools, including Kumasi Girls, Zakafia Islamic SHS, Asem Islamic, etc in the metro as part of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration.

The Mayor of KMA, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi said this initiative is to promote menstrual health and hygiene management among young girls in the Metropolis.

According to him, this effort aims to support menstrual hygiene management, raise awareness about menstrual health, and ensure girls can manage their periods with dignity.

Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi explained how the assembly is eager to improve school attendance and retention among girls.

Stressing that with this support, it would

enhanced dignity and confidence among girls and women reduced health risks associated with poor menstrual hygiene management, and increased awareness and understanding of menstrual health and hygiene practices.

The KMA Mayor emphasized the need for global efforts to promote menstrual hygiene management and support girls’ education and well-being.

Urging parents and guardians to support their adolescent girls during these stages of their lives.

He also called on other philanthropists, NGOs, institutions, and corporate bodies to support schools with sanitary pads every month instead of waiting for World Celebration Day before any assistance would be made.

During an interview with some students at Zakafia Islamic SHS, they expressed their gratitude to the assembly for the education, given them on menstrual hygiene and

reproductive health, which will be very beneficial to them in this stage of their lives.
