Government Urged To Address Teacher’s Deficit In Rural Areas

The Municipal Education Director for Kwahu South in the Eastern Region,Williams Frimpong, has made a passionate appeal to the government to address the critical shortage of teachers in rural communities.

Speaking at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) delegates conference held at Kwahu Mpraeso, Frimpong emphasized that the shortage of teachers in these areas is significantly impacting the quality of education.

To mitigate this challenge, Frimpong proposed that the government offer attractive incentives to teachers who accept postings in rural communities.

Such incentives, he argued, could include improved remuneration packages, better infrastructure, and access to professional development opportunities.

According to Frimpong, these measures would not only attract more teachers to rural areas but also motivate them to stay and deliver quality education.

The newly elected Chairperson of GNAT Kwahu South, Rachel Ohemeng urged Ghana Education Services to operationalize study leave with pay for teachers pursuing master’s degrees and beyond.

According to her, this would enable teachers to further their education, enhance their professional development, and ultimately improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools.

End.
