Regulating The Cashew Sector Jaman South Farmers Call For Establishment Of Cashew Board

Cashew farmers in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region are making a passionate appeal to the government to expedite the establishment of a Cashew Marketing Board to regulate and develop the sector.

At a press conference held in Japekrom, the farmers express deep concern over the absence of a regulatory body, which they say has left them vulnerable to unfair pricing and exploitation by buyers.

According to the farmers, a dedicated cashew board will not only streamline operations within the sector but also ensure that farmers receive fair market value for their produce.

The Secretary of the Jaman South Cashew Farmers Association, NICHOLAS FOSU, emphasizes the urgency of the matter, reminding government officials of their earlier commitment to create such a board.

In addition to the call for a regulatory board, the farmers are also urging the government to fulfill its pledge to establish a cashew processing factory in the municipality.

They argue that Jaman South is a major cashew-producing hub and that situating a factory in the area would generate both direct and indirect employment, particularly for the youth.

The move, they say, aligns with the government’s vision of a 24-hour economy, as processing facilities would allow for round-the-clock operations and greater value addition to local produce.

The farmers believe that with proper regulation and investment in local processing, Ghana’s cashew industry can be transformed into a key driver of rural development and national economic growth.
