Two(2) Individuals Have Been Confirmed Deceased In Cape Coast Following A Period Of Rainfall

A storey building located at London Bridge, a community in the center of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Area in the Central Region, collapsed after several hours of heavy downpour.

The incident, which occurred early yesterday morning, Saturday, has instilled fear in the people of cape coast as rescue efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ambulance Service, the National Disaster Management Organization, and the police continue to manage the situation.

The search party successfully rescued several individuals trapped in the building, and the body of an elderly woman was retrieved.

Addressing the media, the city authorities, led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur (Mayor), who was present at the scene to ensure the agencies worked effectively, confirmed that five people were in the building when it collapsed.

Three individuals have been retrieved, with two confirmed deceased.

Additionally, the National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO) team from the Central Regional office, led by Regional Coordinator Mr. Kwesi Dawson, confirmed receiving several complaints following the Saturday morning rain.

He identified specific areas within the Cape Coast metropolis affected by the rainfall, as well as other districts that experienced minor disasters.

Furthermore, he confirmed that the bodies of the two deceased individuals have been sent to Cape Teaching Hospital, and three individuals with injuries are receiving treatment.
