Tema Police Intercept Tipper Truck Loaded WIith 52 Sacks Of Indian Hemp; Woman Arrested

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Sophia Amankwa, in a significant drug bust involving thousands of slabs of suspected Indian hemp.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit, the arrest occurred on June 25, 2025, at Dogo Junction in Ada, Greater Accra Region, following a targeted police operation. A tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12 was intercepted, though the driver managed to flee the scene.
Upon conducting a search of the abandoned vehicle, police officers discovered a staggering 3,900 compressed and cello-taped slabs of what is suspected to be Indian hemp, neatly packed in 52 sacks.
*Preliminary* investigations revealed that the seized consignment belongs to *Sophia Amankwa* , who was subsequently taken into custody. She is currently assisting the police with investigations.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the fugitive driver and any other individuals connected to the illegal consignment.
ASP Dede Dzakpasu , Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, emphasized the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and other organized crimes in the region.
The arrest marks another milestone in the police’s anti-narcotics operations and comes amid increased vigilance across transport routes in the Greater Accra Region.
