The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) in Mfantseman Municipality, Central Region, has given the government a 3-month ultimatum to address the shortage of teachers in the area.
The newly elected chairman of COHBS made the appeal during an interview with Douglas Oyiboh Amponsah.
According to the chairman Mr Peter Fiifi Acquah, the municipality is facing significant teaching challenges due to the lack of adequate teachers.
The heads of basic schools are therefore urging the government to recruit new teachers before the end of September 2025 to address the issue.
This development highlights the need for the government to prioritize education and address the pressing issues affecting teachers and students in the municipality.
The COHBS is hopeful that the government will take immediate action to address the teacher shortage and improve the quality of education in the area.
He then urge all head teachers not to remain in their offices ideally but to involves in the effectively in the teaching and learning process of the school.
He also hinted on the problem of inadequate desks for students to sit on, as one of their request from the Government.
Additionally, the member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Hon. Dr Prince Ebenezer Kojo Arhin also expressed his excitement about the meeting and acknowledge head teachers for their marvelous work they are doing, because you can not be a successful in life without passing through the hand of a teacher.
According to the MP the government has assured them to use 10% of the common fund to build additional schools within the Municipality, another 10% of the fund to get adequate desks for students.
Under his leadership Mfantseman has eight (8) circuit, Scholarship will be given to best 3 students from each circuit to any senior high school of his choice, he finally urge parents not to leave their burdens on teachers alone.
In conclusion, National COHBS President Mr Nicholas Nii Akpapoh also stressed on the theme networking a powerful tool for 21st century Head teachers .
He said Networking can be termed as interconnectivity, communication, information shearing and relating together with each other views.
What it means at this moment all head teachers should adopt themselves in a good networking environment to share ideas together and this can be done through all social media handles and other digital platforms Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook and some others.
Ur head teachers not to remain in their offices always but come out to involve in the effective teaching and learning process.
