Assin Anwiasu Teachers And Nurses Threaten To Leave Community Over Alleged Witchcraft Activities

Tension is rising in Assin Anwiasu in the Central Region as teachers at the local basic school and nurses at the health facility have threatened to vacate the community over alleged acts of witchcraft involving some pupils.
According to the affected staff, a few students have been accused of engaging in spiritual attacks, including plotting mystical accidents against some teachers.
These suspicions have created a climate of fear and anxiety, leaving both the education and health workers feeling unsafe.
Teachers say the issue is affecting them psychologically, which is now interfering with effective teaching and learning in the school.
Nana Yaw Kwanin Ababio II, chief of the community, has intervened, urging the professionals to stay while assuring them that measures are being taken to restore calm.
The issue came to light when two young pupils allegedly assaulted a girl who claimed to be a “spiritual queen mother.”
According to reports, she claimed to have summoned the boys before her spiritual elders to be killed.
However, a young pastor is said to have received a revelation and raised an alarm, exposing the situation publicly.
The School Management Committee (SMC) has hinted that if the teachers carry out their threat, it could jeopardize academic performance and possibly lead to school closure.
Some residents have also expressed concern that fear of witchcraft is damaging not just the school and clinic but local commerce and social life as well.
Meanwhile, Ms. Grace Ocran, Public Relations Officer of the Assin North District Education Directorate, acknowledged the emotional toll the situation is having.
She noted that while the GES does not handle spiritual matters, the directorate is working to address the psychological impact on staff.
