<p>Local Accountability Network (LANET), an auxiliary of Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, in conjunction with Codesult Focal Organization, held a forum at Otoo Memorial School( Bibiani) and Kwamekrom JHS, respectively, to commemorate African Union Anti-Corruption Day (AUACD).</p>

<p>In his opening remarks, Mr. John Ntori, a focal person of the organization, reiterated that the African Union Anti-corruption Day is observed annually on July 11, to promote transparency, accountability, and reaffirm commitment to the Union&#8217;s Convention on preventing and combating corruption.</p>

<p>He continued that in Ghana, anti-corruption agencies like the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) observe the day through public education and community engagement by empowering young people to take action against corruption in their schools, communities, and beyond.</p>

<p>Mr. Ntori bemoaned that the youth are among the hardest hit by corruption in Ghana. &#8220;This practice limits their access to education, job opportunities, and fair public services,&#8221; he maintained.</p>
<p>The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition was lauded for sensitizing a considerable number of people through its local Accountability Networks in 2024.</p>

<p>He disclosed that this year, Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, with support from Hewlett Foundation, is expanding its coverage to 40 districts in Ghana with a continued focus on empowering young people to take action through civic participation, whistleblowing, and a commitment to resist, reject, and report corruption.</p>

<p>In both events, Mr. Eric Ntiamoah Boateng, the Municipal Director for the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) facilitated the programme through participatory and interactive techniques.</p>

<p>He walked the participants through the meaning and types of corruption and the essence of fighting corruption.</p>
<p>Other essential topics discussed were Whistleblowing, the Whistleblowers Act, the Witness Protection Act, and the role of the youth in combating corruption.</p>

<p>The Headmaster of Otoo Memorial School, Mr. Oppong Ening Alexander, expressed appreciation to the organizers and the facilitators for a good job done, stating that it was a testament to the fact that Ghana, in particular, and the African Union at large are poised to combat corruption, which has become a social canker.</p>
