The Amansie Central District is facing a severe shortage of teachers in its rural schools due to poor working and living conditions.

Elder Vincent Ameyaw, the District Educational Director, has revealed that national service teachers posted to rural areas often fail to report for duty or abandon their posts shortly after arrival.

According to Elder Ameyaw, the lack of basic amenities such as electricity, good roads, and reliable network connectivity makes it difficult for teachers to live and work in these areas.

Additionally, high rental prices and the absence of teacher bungalows in rural communities further exacerbate the problem.

“We are doing our best to ensure that our children receive quality education, but it’s challenging when teachers can’t stay in these areas due to poor conditions,” Elder Ameyaw said.

“We urge the government to consider building teacher bungalows near schools in rural areas to encourage teachers to stay and work.”

The situation is having a devastating impact on the education of children in rural areas, who are already disadvantaged due to limited resources and infrastructure.

Elder Ameyaw made the call when school children gathered at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District to exhibit their cultural talents.

The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of the area, but the underlying challenges facing the education sector threaten to undermine the progress made in promoting cultural development.
