Wee Smokers Turn School Into Open Defecation Hotbed”-Teachers Reveals

The Amadum Adankwame Methodist Primary School in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti region is facing a serious challenge.

Wee smokers have taken over the school premises, using it as a hangout spot and even defecating in the classrooms due to the lack of fencing and proper structures.

According to Mr. Stephen Osei Akoto, a School Management Committee (SMC) member, the poor state of the school is a cause for concern. “The poor nature of the school doesn’t speak well about the school,” he said.

“The classroom blocks and all the roofing have damage, and when it rains, it becomes difficult for the teachers and children.”

The situation is further complicated by the lack of proper infrastructure, including furniture.

However, the old students’ association has stepped in to donate student desks to the school, which will help alleviate some of the challenges.

Mr. Akoto called on the government and benevolent individuals to come and support the school.

Teachers at the school expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, citing the impact on students’ academic performance and health risks.

“This situation is unbearable,” said one teacher. “We need urgent help to restore our school’s dignity and ensure our students can learn in a safe environment.”

The situation demands urgent action from the authorities to provide the necessary infrastructure, including fencing and proper toilet facilities, to restore the school’s dignity and ensure a conducive learning environment for the students.
