Mp’s Backs Fda-Approved COA Herbal Medicine For Inclusion In NHIS Scheme

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has strongly endorsed the proposal for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to include COA Research and Manufacturing Limited’s products namely COA Mixture, COA Plus Mixture, and COA-MT Mixture onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) list of covered treatments.

According to Committee after their observation, these products are already FDA approved and have the endorsement of the Scientific Research Council, affirming their safety and efficacy for patient use.

Hon. Dr. Prince Arhin, MP for Mfantseman Constituency and a member of the Select Committee, emphasized the importance of incorporating locally developed, scientifically validated herbal medicines into the NHIS framework.

He highlighted that including COA products could significantly improve access to affordable treatments for chronic diseases, which are currently financially challenging for many Ghanaians.

Following a comprehensive tour of COA’s research and manufacturing facilities in Wusorkrom,Abura Asebu Kwamankese District in the Central Region to gain insight into its operations, the committee expressed willingness to collaborate with Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan and COA Research and Manufacturing Limited to advance these efforts, also committed to ensuring the mobilization of government support and resources from research institutions to facilitate the integration of these herbal medicines.

In conclusion, the Select Committee on Health is dedicated to partnering with COA Research and Manufacturing Limited to enhance Ghana’s healthcare delivery through innovative, approved, and cost-effective herbal medicines as part of the NHIS benefits package

Professor Samuel Ato Duncan, CEO of COA Research and Manufacturing Limited Company, seized the opportunity to appeal directly to the committee members.

The District Chief Executive for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Hon. Daniel Mensah Wardy, believes that the company can employ more young from the area if the government provides their support.

He further appeals to the parliamentary select committee on health to address issues with the government and the company.
