Media To Track And Report Real Impact Of Corporate Investment – GJA

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Western Region has reaffirmed its commitment to tracking, reporting, and amplifying the real impact of corporate investments in local communities.

This pledge was made during the launch of the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Dialogue and Exhibition, a joint initiative with the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) held in Sekondi.

Regional GJA Chairman, Desmond Cudjoe, noted that although the region faces pressing challenges in education, health, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability, there are already examples of CSI delivering positive results.

However, he stressed that many of these efforts remain fragmented and lack long-term coordination.

He emphasized the critical role the media must play in documenting these initiatives with integrity, measuring their impact, and amplifying what works.

The CSI Dialogue and Exhibition seeks to shift corporate social responsibility from symbolic, one-off donations to strategic, sustainable investments that align with community needs.

The initiative also aims to foster partnerships, promote transparency, and recognize impactful contributions through an annual CSI Impact Report and CSI Impact Awards, to be co-published with the WRCC.

Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, commended the GJA for taking the lead on the initiative.

He urged companies operating in sectors such as extractives, telecommunications, finance, and agribusiness to align their corporate investments with regional priorities including rural roads, technical education, public health, and environmental protection.

He described this shift as essential to achieving long-term, sustainable prosperity rather than engaging in seasonal charity.

Paramount Chief of the Gwira Traditional Area, Awulae Angama Tu-Agyan II, welcomed the initiative, pointing out that many existing CSI efforts are disconnected from the actual needs of communities.

He expressed hope that the GJA-WRCC collaboration would bring about greater consistency and strategic planning in how corporate entities engage with the region.

The launch of the CSI Dialogue and Exhibition marks a significant step toward reshaping corporate engagement in the Western Region to ensure that investments directly contribute to sustainable development and community well-being.
