Small-Scale Miners Call Out Mahama Over Broken Promises

Members of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners in the Amansie South district, Ashanti Region, have reminded President John Dramani Mahama of his 2024 election promises to protect and sustain small-scale mining activities.
The group claims that the current police intimidation, excavator seizures, and burnings contradict Mahama’s assurances, which motivated them to vote massively for the NDC.
They claimed of facing harassment and equipment seizures, particularly in the Amansie South district where the illegal mining taskforce remains active.
Mr. Kwaku Abonee (Osama)said after the press conference held by national executives of the association, all illegal mining taskforces assigned to various mining districts have been withdrawn except Amansie South district, and their attacks on the members are giving them sleepless nights.
Hon. Anning Isaac, the financial secret of the association, said the presence of security personnel in the district is scaring students to go to school as others fear of going out and call on the government to redraw them from the district.
Mr. John Henry Damah, the district secretary of the association said, they are committed to supporting the government in the fight against illegal mining, especially those on river bodies.
