Carpenter Jailed 10 Years For Stealing And Causing Harm At Assin Adubiase

The Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, has sentenced Anthony Asirifi, a 36-year-old carpenter, also known as Kofi Edem, to 10 years imprisonment.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Abdulai Moro, presented the case against Asirifi and his accomplice, Enoch Damptey, a driver.

The duo faced charges including conspiracy to commit crime, causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, stealing, causing unlawful harm, and use of offensive weapons and possession of instruments adapted for unlawful entry.

On July 10, 2025, at around 12:30 am, Asirifi and his accomplice, Nana Yaw, now on the run, embarked on a theft operation in Assin Adubiase township in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

They first targeted the home of Samuel Osei Korankyi, an electrical engineer, and his wife, Catherine Bruce, also known as Kate.

Asirifi cut and opened the kitchen wire mesh, causing damage valued at GH¢500.00.

They then ransacked the rooms, making off with an AZUS laptop valued at GH¢5,000.00, a MOTOROLA mobile phone valued at GH¢4,500.00, and a physical cash of GH¢2,570.00, totaling GH¢12,070.00.

The duo then proceeded to the home of Gordon Amaglo, also known as Tawiah, where Asirifi cut open the trapped gate, causing damage valued at GH¢200.00.

He then entered the room, taking a TECHNO POP 10 mobile phone valued at GH¢1,500.00 and a DELL laptop valued at GH¢2,300.00, totaling GH¢3,800.00.

The complainant, Gordon Amaglo, woke up during the theft and chased Asirifi, who stabbed him in the eye with a kitchen knife.

Despite this, the complainant managed to arrest Asirifi with the help of other townspeople.

A search of Asirifi yielded several implements, including a pair of cutters, a kitchen knife, a lighter, and a pair of scissors. Asirifi was handed over to the police for investigation.

During interrogations, Asirifi admitted the offenses and mentioned various names as his accomplices, but later stood trial for the offenses.

The court, having found Asirifi guilty, sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment.
