Assin North: DCE Slams Contractors Over Shoddy School And Health Project Work

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin North, Hon. Sylvester Amakye Nyarkoh, has strongly condemned the poor construction works on a 3-unit classroom block at Assin Oboba Krokrowa and a CHPS compound at Assin Wawase, describing them as substandard and structurally weak.

During a site inspection, the DCE expressed dismay over the visibly weak structural columns, extensive cracks, and deteriorating ceilings, warning that the facilities pose serious safety risks.

He described the structures as potential “deathtraps” and disclosed that independent engineers have been engaged to assess the structural integrity of both projects, which began under the previous administration.

Hon. Amakye blamed the former government for failing to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation, saying such lapses contributed to the current situation.

During a site meeting with community leaders, the DCE emphasized that shoddy construction undermines the government’s commitment to delivering lasting infrastructure.

Though he declined to name the contractors publicly, he revealed to Rich FM News that formal invitations have been sent to the contractors working on the Oboba and Aniakragya projects for discussions.

He cautioned that failure to respond will lead to contract termination and legal action.

Some concerned parents present at the site meeting said they constantly fear for their children’s safety, especially when the weather threatens rain.

They pleaded for urgent intervention.

The community chiefs also urged government officials to ensure stricter oversight of public projects, calling for accountability and a renewed focus on quality and safety.
