Mining Leases To Be Granted Based On Merit – Lands Minister Warns

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has reiterated that the granting and extension of mining leases in Ghana will strictly be based on merit and guided by benchmarks set by the government.
Speaking during a working tour of some large-scale mining companies in the Western Region, the Minister emphasized that mining lease decisions will not be influenced by favoritism or political considerations.
“Any company that fails to meet the government’s requirements will have its license revoked. The NDC government will not hesitate to take such action,” he warned.
Ghana continues to offer various mining lease opportunities, particularly in the gold sector, attracting both local and international investors.
Meanwhile, Michael Eden Akafia, Vice President for External Affairs at Gold Fields Ghana Limited, raised a concern regarding the security of tenure in the sector.
He noted that the mining industry is capital intensive and requires maximum assurance from the government to ensure long-term investments.
