Bibiani Cocoa Farmers Vers After The Announcement Of The New Cocoa Price By The Finance Minister

Farmers in Bibiani Western North Region have voiced their reactions to the newly announced farm gate cocoa price set by the government for the 2025–2026 cocoa season.
The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has officially announced an adjustment to the farm gate price of cocoa for the 2025–2026 season.
The price per bag has risen from GHS 3,100 to GHS 3,228.75, marking a modest increment for cocoa farmers.
However, this adjustment has sparked widespread discontent among farmers.
Many have expressed strong opposition, arguing that the new price is insufficient to offset the numerous challenges they face in cocoa production.
Farmers emphasized that the increased costs of inputs, labor, and other operational difficulties necessitate a more substantial price hike to ensure profitability and sustainability.
In addition to their concerns about the farm gate price, farmers highlighted the inadequacy of government-supplied fertilizers and agrochemicals.
They noted that the current quantities provided are insufficient to meet their needs, limiting their ability to enhance cocoa yields.
Farmers are urging the government to increase the supply of these critical inputs to ensure equitable access and support improved production across the region.
