Government To Begin Phase 3 Of The Appiatse Project With Remaining GH¢52 Million – Lands Minister

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has announced that the government will soon commence Phase 3 of the Appiatse Reconstruction Project, using the remaining GH¢52 million from the total GH¢112 million donated to support the rebuilding of the disaster-stricken community.
Speaking during a working visit to Appiatse, the Minister revealed that nearly GH¢60 million had already been spent on Phases 1 and 2 of the project.
These phases involved the construction of permanent homes and infrastructure, allowing most of the displaced residents to be resettled in new government-built houses.
.
However, he noted that 68 individuals are still living at the Appiatse Relief Camp, awaiting full resettlement.
“These remaining victims will be catered for under Phase 3,” Hon. Buah assured, emphasizing government’s continued commitment to ensuring that every affected resident is properly housed.
He also disclosed that arrangements are ongoing with traditional authorities to secure additional land for the next phase of the reconstruction.
“We are in talks with the local chiefs. Once the land is secured and everything is set, Phase 3 will begin,” the Minister added.
During the visit, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni Valley, Hon. Matthew Ayeh, in his welcome address, highlighted several challenges encountered after Phases 1 and 2.
He mentioned that there were structural defects in some of the buildings, including leakages in septic tanks, lack of plastering, and other construction issues.
He further noted that essential community facilities such as a CHPS compound, market, and community center were not provided in the earlier phases.
“We are appealing to the Minister to consider these concerns and address them in Phase 3,” the MCE pleaded.
In response, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister assured residents that all the structural defects and missing facilities would be addressed in the upcoming phase.
.
“We will fix all these issues in Phase 3,” he said, and called on the chiefs and residents of Appiatse to collaborate with the government to ensure the successful execution of the next phase.
