The Lack Of Security Personnel Is Causing Significant Disruptions In Schools Within The KEEA District – Headteachers Call On The Gov’t

Headteachersin the Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abrem Municipality (KEEA) of the Central Region have expressed their concerns about the high incidence of theft occurring within the schools.
During the handover ceremony of school desks, chairs, and other materials intended to enhance learning, provided by the assembly to the schools in the municipality, Madam Georgina Efua Coujoe, Headteacher of Komenda M/A Basic School, speaking on behalf of the teachers, commending the municipal assembly for their commitment in education, therefore adding their challenges, according them, they fears is that many of these items received from the assembly may eventually fall into the hands of unauthorized individuals, particularly thieves.
Currently, numerous schools in the district are experiencing theft of their properties, and there is a reluctance to lodge complaints due to the absence of security personnel to safeguard the premises both day and night.
Madam Cudjoe stated, “thieves break the classroom windows and sometimes take away learning materials because we do not have security personnel present.
We are, therefore, appealing to the Ghana Education Service to urgently assign security personnel to the basic schools to protect the schools’ properties.”
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Komenda , Edina Eguafo-Abrem, Hon. Ismail Zagoon-Saeed
addressing stakeholders at the municipal assembly during the education logistics presentation, expressed concerns regarding the high incidence of school dropouts within the area.
MCE, indicated that this issue has necessitated the assembly to undertake initiatives aimed at resolving the problem. Consequently, the assembly has established an institution known as the “Complementary Education Emergency” to address this gap.
“Our objective is to nurture and reintegrate children who have dropped out of school, ensuring they receive an education and are incorporated into mainstream schools.
The assembly is committed to ensuring that every child receives an education,” he stated.
Moreover, Mr. Zagoon-Saeed instructed the headteachers to ensure all the items received are used for their intended purposes.
