Head-On Collision At Abossey Okai Chop Bar: 14 Injured In Near-Fatal Crash On Accra-Kumasi Highway

An early morning accident at the Abossey Okai Chop Bar area, a popular spot near Nkawkaw on the busy Accra-Kumasi highway, has left 14 people injured after a head-on collision between a Toyota mini bus and a KIA Rhino.

According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota mini bus, with registration number GE 7474- 25, reportedly traveling from Kumasi to Accra, and the KIA Rhino, with registration number GE 3428- 22 which was heading in the opposite direction from Accra towards Nkawkaw, collided head-on before both vehicles plunged into a valley along the stretch.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded. However, all 14 passengers aboard the mini bus sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to Holy Family hospital at Nkawkaw for treatment.

Nkawkaw Municipal Fire Commander, DOII Samuel Mantey, confirmed the incident to the media.

He expressed deep concern over the increasing rate of accidents on that section of the highway in recent times, adding that poor weather conditions and wet roads during this season only worsen the situation.

He cautioned drivers to exercise extra vigilance, particularly during rainy periods, and emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to traffic rules and road signs to prevent future tragedies.

End.
