Car Dealers Hail DVLA’s New Number Plates Initiative

The Public Relations Officer of the Executive Car Dealers Association, Mr. Martin Kwadwo Danso, has expressed support for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority’s (DVLA) new number plates initiative set to launch in 2026.

According to Mr. Danso, the current system, which includes the year of registration on number plates, affects the pricing and selling duration of cars.

Ghanaians often buy cars based on their year displayed on the plate, but with the new plates, this information will no longer be displayed.

Mr. Danso believes the new number plates will bring about significant changes in the automotive industry.

He also highlighted the benefits of the embedded RFID chip in the new plates, which will enhance vehicle tracking, improve road safety, and streamline law enforcement efforts. The chip will speed up the work of the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) and the police on the road.

In a separate development, Mr. Danso commended the president’s efforts to depreciate the dollar, which has led to reduced duties at ports.

He encouraged car dealers to pass on these savings to customers, now that the cedi is stronger. With reduced duties, Mr. Danso believes car prices should decrease, making vehicles more affordable for Ghanaians.
