Galamsey Increases Rampant Surgical Cases – Galaxy Foundation Reveals

The Founder and leader of the Galaxy Foundation, Mr. David Hagan, has revealed that illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, is significantly contributing to the rising cases of surgical diseases in the Ashanti region.
According to Mr. Hagan, the foundation, which provides assistance to those in need of plastic surgeries, has observed a disturbing trend where most of the patients they treat are from galamsey areas.
Mr. Hagan disclosed that out of 100 people the foundation operates on, a significant majority are from areas affected by galamsey.
This, he noted, underscores the severe health implications of galamsey activities, which expose individuals to hazardous conditions and toxic chemicals, often resulting in injuries and diseases that require costly surgical interventions.
The high cost of plastic surgeries, according to Mr. Hagan, poses a significant challenge for the foundation, which struggles to provide adequate support to those in need.
As a result, he has called on the government to provide financial assistance to the foundation to enable it to continue its life-saving work.
Furthermore, Mr. Hagan urged the government to consider including plastic surgeries and cancer treatments in the health insurance scheme.
He emphasized that the costs associated with these procedures are prohibitively high, making them inaccessible to many Ghanaians who need them.
By including these treatments in the health insurance scheme, the government can help ensure that more citizens have access to the medical care they need.
