GNFS Rescue Team Responds To Fatal Road Crash At Kormantse

At 0350 hours today, the Mankessim Fire Rescue Team was dispatched to a road crash at Kormantse on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway involving a Mercedes Benz (AS 4146-25) and a Hino truck (GW 5958-25).
Most occupants managed to self-rescue with assistance from passersby before the arrival of the rescue team.
Firefighters extricated two trapped persons who were suspected dead.
Five people, including a child and the truck driver, sustained injuries and have been confirmed by the police.
Eight fatalities have also been reported.
With support from other stakeholders, the road has been cleared and reopened to traffic.
The cause of the accident is yet to be established.
