Police Rescue 33 Sex Trafficking Victims In Upper Denkyira West; Six Suspects Arrested

In a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation on September 11, 2025, the Central North Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Abraham Acquaye and a 35-member task force, rescued 33 women believed to be victims of a sex trafficking syndicate at Nipa-ne-Kuro near Denkyira Subin in the Upper Denkyira West District.
Briefing the media, DCOP Acquaye revealed that the dawn operation, carried out at 5:05 a.m., also led to the arrest of six persons suspected to be behind the trafficking network, including the alleged brothel operator.
The victims, mostly young Nigerian women, were lured into Ghana with promises of white-collar jobs, only to be forced into commercial sex work under harsh and abusive conditions.
According to police investigations, the victims were required to pay between GHS 500 and GHS 1,000 daily to their handler, identified only as “Mama Rich.
” Those who failed to meet the target were subjected to degrading and inhumane punishments.
Victims recounted being beaten, forced to eat human excreta, brush their teeth with it, and in some instances, had pepper inserted into their private parts or smeared on their bodies.
One victim is currently battling serious eye injuries after being struck with a stick. Another is suffering severe abdominal pain, suspected to be due to a dislocated womb, following forced sexual encounters.
Victims also claim that despite their deteriorating health, “Mama Rich,” who is currently on the run, denied them medical care.
.
Disturbingly, the victims said they were taken to a shrine, stripped naked, had their heads shaved, and were made to swear oaths under duress.
They were told that any attempt to escape would result in madness or death.
DCOP Acquaye said, the Police also retrieved a locally manufactured shotgun, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a half-gallon of locally brewed alcohol allegedly laced with drugs, and several restricted substances from the premises.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
The victims will be handed over to the Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service for further support and reintegration processes.
DCOP Acquaye emphasized that the police remain committed to dismantling trafficking networks and called for community support in reporting suspicious activities.
The operation underscores the urgent need for multi-agency efforts to curb human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals.
